New Camera

So I bought a new camera recently. It's a Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH and looks like this:

I haven't had a chance to play around with it too much yet but its pretty sweet and I'm excited to use it. Maybe I'll start to update more often on xanga too. We'll see. Currently applying to a bunch of med schools right now. Hopefully I get in. It's crazy expensive. Got back from Korea a little while ago. Was lots of fun and had LOTS of delicious food. Nothing really that interesting to say beyond that. I am a super exciting fellow.

So I finally decided to post about my new computer that i got a while back. It's super nice and I'm kind of in love with it.

So I ended up getting an F131 from Maingear ( http://www.maingear.com/f131-intel-sli.html ). It has an Intel core 2 duo CPU E6850 @ 3.00 GHz, 2 GB of memory, and operates on Windows Vista. I'm getting used to most of the features of Vista and have turned off the ones that annoyed me (mainely the UAC). Oh yea, I also have 1 TB of hardrive space. Yea. That's pretty awesome. I also have an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT videocard which makes for some nice gameplay. Along with those, I got a 22'' Widescreen Acer monitor and a pair of Bose speakers that are pretty sweet. So yea, I've been playing around with that and have finally gotten everything I wanted installed on it and am enjoying it very much now. Also, I downloaded Planet Earth in HD and it currently takes up 80 GB of space. It's so beautiful.

In other news, I just bought a new car the other day. Like I'll be making all the payments for it. Crazy. It's a 2008 Hyundai Sonata GLS...

and I like it very much. It drives really well and has mostly everything that i wanted. It's going to be a bit pricey though so I may have to stop going out to eat as much as I used to. Including everything it's going to be like $400 a month for a long time. Oh well, at least its nice and shiny.

Other than my two new acquisitions, all that's really happening in my really exciting life is work, which is actually really cool. I mean, i play* with mice a lot but there are a lot of really interesting things going on with the drugs that we are working with and I may get to see some actual patient trials in the future.

*there were definitely lots of mice hurt in the making of this entry. Poor miserable mice...

Thanksgiving!

So over the years I've come to realize that I don't particularly enjoy turkey that much. I find the white meat to be far too dry and kind of bland and the red meat that's actually pretty decent is just not a very high percentage of the meat available. But apparently there are other ways to cook a turkey that does sounds like it may solve my dilemma.

First up is the deep fried turkey. This is exactly what you think it is. It is a turkey that is completely submerged in a vat of oil and fried into a giant mass of turkey goodness. This allows the turkey to be much more moist and tender than the traditionally cooked turkey and therefore increase the amount of tasty turkey meat compared to not so tasty turkey meat.

I've also heard from a friend that wrapping the turkey up in bacon and cooking that in the oven will also give you a similar result with the bacon fat seeping into the turkey and making it moist and delicious, albeit in a bacon kind of way, which I mean could be a plus cause bacon is amazing.

Now the method that I personally want to experience at least once in my life is to cook it as the super fowl combination: the Turducken. This is a partially de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck, which itself is stuffed with a small de-boned chicken. Apparently you can also stuff others things ( I'm not talking about plain stuffing... that's like automatic ) into this frankenstein like sausage. *Drool* Also, there are apparently other variations to this like the Osturducken, which is a turducken wrapped up in, you guessed it, an ostrich!

But seriously, that is nothing compared to what the French did in the 19th century. They made for some royal feast the ultimate in bird cooking. It was called a bustergophechiduckneaealcockidgeoverwing
ailusharkolanbler  a bustard, stuffed with a turkey,  a goose, a pheasant, a chicken, a duck, a guinea fowl, a teal, a woodcock, a partridge, a plover, a lapwing, a quail, a thrush Bunting, a lark, an Ortolan and a Garden Warbler. It was originally called a RĂ´ti Sans Pareil, or "Roast without equal" Thank you wikipedia for letting me know of this great day in human history.

Also, on a completely unrelated note, apparently Chuck Norris endorses Mike Huckabee. And while I don't personally like Huckabee... this ad is really funny, especially at the end.
